# How Often Should You Bathe Your Dog? A Groomer's Answer

October 2026

Bubble bath — tongue out, very happy

The short answer

- **A bath: about every 10 days**
- **A groom (haircut & styling): every one to two months**, depending on how fast their coat grows
- In the end, it depends on their **coat and skin**

"How often should my dog have a bath?" is one of the questions owners ask us most. The answer comes in two halves: a **bath** and a **groom** are different things, on different schedules.

## What two months roughly look like

## Bath vs groom: what's the difference?

Many owners think of a "bath" and a "groom" as the same thing. Here's how we split them:

**Bath (Basic Groom)**

Bath and blow-dry, plus nail trim, ear cleaning and ear-hair plucking, anal-gland expression, and a paw-pad and hygiene trim. Clean and comfortable.

**Groom (Full Service)**

Everything in the Basic Groom, plus a professional haircut and styling — to suit the breed, or the look you'd like.

So "every 10 days" is about bathing; "every one to two months" is about haircuts. [See dog grooming prices →](/pet-grooming/#price)

## Why isn't it the same for every dog?

Ten days is a guide, not a rule. How often your dog actually needs it depends on two things:

**How fast their coat grows**Dogs whose coat grows fast or tangles easily can come for a groom closer to every month; slower coats can go two months.

**Their skin**Every time we bathe your dog, we check their skin and coat first — if we notice anything, we'll tell you, and work out together how often suits them.

Not sure what suits your dog? Just ask our groomer next time you come in.

## When can a puppy have a bath?

Once they've finished their vaccinations, they can come in for a bath. For a groom (haircut), we suggest at least two baths first — puppies who aren't used to grooming tend to wriggle, and that's when accidents happen. Getting to know the place, and us, first makes grooming much smoother later.

## And cats?

For cats, a bath about **every one to two months** is enough. Lots of cats dislike water, so we keep it quick to cut down their time in it. [See cat grooming prices →](/pet-grooming/?pet=cat)

## Bath at home, or bring them in?

Bathing at home is absolutely fine — plenty of owners do it between visits.

When you bring them in, along with the bath and blow-dry we also trim nails, clean ears, pluck ear hair and express anal glands — things that are hard to do at home — and we check their skin and coat every time.

## Want to book a bath?

Message us on WhatsApp with your dog's breed and we'll sort out a time. Friday to Sunday fills up fast — weekdays are usually easier to book.
